Restaurante El Aljibe, Havana, Cuba

El Aljibe is one of my favourite restaurants in Havana! They serve real Cuban food in the lovely Miramar area. When you order the house specialty, you can actually "eat as much as you like". That means fried chicken, french fries, fried banana and... black beans and rice, a traditional Cuban dish also known as "Moros y Cristianos".

Unlike some other places, here the food was really good, even though it was not fancy or anything (so don't expect "nouvelle cuisine"). Some people say that El Aljibe serves the best chicken in town! I especially loved their platanos fritos.

El Aljibe is a very big restaurant, but still manages to be cosy. Maybe because of the friendly staff and because it's always busy! The clientele is a mix of tourists, embassy personell and good looking Cubans (make that very good looking).

I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw all the pretty Cuban girls, dressed up in their cocktail dresses (so this is where they go). Oh, now I almost forget to mention that the players from the national baseball team come here as well...

Well, if all this isn't enough... then let me tell you that they have a wine cellar as well, not very common in Cuban restaurants. Cheers!
