Eudia hats store opening, The Hague

Friday night Evelien Gentis-Smit, the designer behind Eudia hats opened up shop in The Hague. Her second store is part of the Résidence de la Mode, a fashion event that will last until the holidays. Hopefully Eudia's pop-up store will remain at the lovely Denneweg after the event has ended. I'm sure all the ladies at the local ministries, foreign embassies and posh hotels in the area will appreciate her handmade hats! Did you know Eudia hats were featured in Dutch Vogue and worn to "Prinsjesdag" (Speech from the Throne)?

Giardini Bardini, Florence, Italy

Florence… the ususal suspects are of course the Ponte Vecchio, the Duomo, Piazza della Signoria, the Uffizi Museum, the David by Donatello…. Been there, done that, got a t-shirt? Then Giardini Bardini is the place to visit next! These beautiful gardens, located close to the Ponte Vecchio, are a true gem right in the city centre.

Climb the stairs to enjoy the breathtaking views of Florence or to have coffee or lunch at the café. It’s a lovely place, suitable for a talk, a walk… for tourists who want to relax and for the many art students that live in or visit the city. I found several people painting and drawing, on a bench, on a tree stump, in the sun, in the shade…
The gardens are just so picturesque. Very suitable for a marriage proposal or even a wedding!

Besides the small café on the top of the hill, there is a fancy restaurant, where you can enjoy a more luscious lunch (not always open though). The restaurant also hosts special events, (jazz) concerts and wine tasting tours. While I was there, they were preparing for a big gala dinner at night... I couldn't believe my eyes... such a pretty location for a charity event!

The gardens are open daily, but opening hours vary according to the season. Check their website for accurate information. Admission fee is €10; I think it's really worth it.

Résidence de la Mode, The Hague

Tonight the Résidence de la Mode opened in The Hague. The kick-off was presented by PR agency Winkelman Van Hessen at the Magasin de la Mode with a wonderful cocktail party. The crème de la crème of the Dutch fashion industry was present (designers, stylists, photographers, journalists, bloggers, etc.)

The fourth edition of Résidence de la Mode lasts from november 23rd until december 2nd 2012. The annual event is a showcase for Dutch designers and for the city of The Hague alike. With all the parties, fashion shows, the Parcours de la mode (a fashion tour through the city centre)... you can shop till you drop!

Only the lucky few will be able to attend the Dutch Fashion Awards, to be held on november 30th in the Grote Kerk. This year the Dutch Fashion Foundation decided to go "back to basics" and rumour has it that the guest list went down from approximately 800 to 300...

Didn't get an invitation? No worries! You will be able to enjoy the best Dutch fashion designs all over the city! Here are some of my personal favourites: Eudia, Francisco van Benthum, Jessica Joyce, Michael Barnaart van Bergen and Sjaak Hullekes.

Pictured here among others: Ellen Burke from Winkelman Van Hessen, Letizia Luijs for Good2b.nl, Lubna Rezzoug from Lu Lu events and Wara from Jupe by Jackie.

Black and gold: the perfect combination!

The combination of black and gold is one of the hottest trends this season. Every fashion brand worth it's money has at least one black and gold dress in their F/W '12 collection... Chanel, Dolce & Gabbana, Emilio Pucci, Marni, Moschino, Antik Batik, River Island... there is a dress for every style and every budget!

But which shoes should you wear with it? Argentinian brand "Comme if Faut" has plenty of gorgeous shoes to choose from. Originally designed for tango dancing, these beauties can easily do double duty at a cocktail party or Chrismas dinner!
