Neon Summer '13

Neon colours will still be hot this summer. Don't worry, they won't be as loud as the past couple of seasons! The neon trend is more stylish this time around. The colours are washed out to get a vintage look.

People... out in the cold at AFW

During Amsterdam Fashion Week a lot of people were wearing fur, mostly vintage fur coats. Not my cup of tea, but I have to admit it was freezing cold and some of them looked pretty good in it. Would have been better if they would have been 'faux'!

Another trend: total black. In fact monochrome dressing (head-to-toe in one colour) is back. I'm wearing winter white and a handmade silk hat by Eudia. Oh that reminds me... there was an enormous amount of beanies, most of them in neon colours!

Unfortunately some photos are over-lit; I messed up the settings. Must have been the cold...

Winter in Holland(ia)

Winter in Holland, or should it be it Hollandia? Either way, the Dutch "warm up" as the weather gets colder! When temperatures drop below zero, everybody starts talking about the "Elfstedentocht" (a historical ice skating match of almost 200 km)... people want to go ice skating themselves, sleighing... and out of nowhere hot chocolate stands pop up. Besides hot chocolate, "snert" is served everywhere, a typical Dutch split pea soup, something you should try next time you're in The Netherlands!

People... at Amsterdam Fashion Week FW13

Here are some of the people I met during Amsterdam Fashion Week: don't they look fabulous? I love Aynouk Tan's outfit (first photo)! Not many people have the guts to wear something like that... oh and the Heineken bottle gives it that extra touch...

And what about Fred van Leer (second photo)? I definitely think he was the best dressed gentlemen in the whole fashion week! Maybe not a big surpise, since he is a stylist to the stars, but still... I loved his look. Perfect colour combination, don't you think? I know, it doesn't hurt that he's handsome either.

Neon colours were still very much alive, just like signature necklaces on animal sweaters (typical fashion blogger's look), as well as shorts and hotpants. Oh and fur.... something that I don't particularly like, but hey what can I do? Stay tuned: more reports will follow soon!

The Sartorialist in Amsterdam

Today I met Scott Schuman, better known as The Sartorialist, for a second time. He is one of my big inspirations, so it was wonderful to sit front row during his Q&A at FOAM. To hear him talk about his work, role models, inspirations and (future) ideas was amazing! Time flew by so quickly, it was over before I knew it... and then the book signing already started.

For the Q&A there were limited seats available, for the book signing however anybody could just stop by. Oh and they did... there were very long lines of welldressed fashionistas and photography lovers! In fact, Scott's fans were so eager to get their copy of "Closer" signed, that most of them didn't even notice the naked lady right in front of them...

The new spring-summer collection by Antik Batik shows once again the signature style of designer Gabriella Cortese: bohemien, globetrotting, ethnic, luxurious, refined and very personal.

Cortese always has an eye for detail: just look at the embroideries, the tie-dye technique, the use of exquisite materials...These dresses are perfect for a sultry summer evening.

I know... summer is still very far away, at least in the Northern Hemisphere. But no need to worry: you can already show off those wonderfull bags and bracelets!
