The quality of the music was high and there were concerts for all tastes. How about some Cuban salsa by the Pedrito Martinez Group? Brazilian samba by Paula Morelenbaum Trio, the best Italian Jazz by (among others) the Giovanni Tommaso Reunion Quintet, as well as Gino Paoli and Danilo Rea... And then of course there was gospel music from Nashville and the blues from New Orleans! (And big stars like Kurt Elling and Dee Alexander...too much to mention really)
Shown here: Jonathan Batiste, Anaïs St. John and her trio, Pedrito Martinez Group, Funk Off, Four Vegas and Raffaello Tullo from Rimbamband.
Orvieto offers a marvelous scenery for Umbria Jazz Winter and New Year's Eve, with delicious food, the very best wines, nice shops and many cultural sites. It was incredible to see how the locals put their best foot forward... after having suffered a big flood only six weeks earlier. The festival showed it's gratitude and solidarity by selling scarves for charity with the Umbria Jazz logo. They kept us all very warm and comfortable! Grazie Orvieto, I will be back!
