Antik Batik Fall/Winter 13-14

It's always a pity when summer comes to an end... the only thing that cheers me up, is the arrival of the new Antik Batik collection in the stores!!! The colours, beading and embroideries are so rich... I can't wait to put it on. The dresses will get you right in the mood for a big New Years Eve party, the coats almost make you want temperatures to drop below zero... Don't you agree?

And the great thing about it, is that you can start wearing those lovely tops and blouses right away. They will fit perfectly with a summer skirt or pair of white jeans. The cardigans, sweaters and coats can wait. (In your closet I mean... because you better get your hands on them right now... Antik Batik always flies off the shelves).

Everybody mad about Peru!

It seems that out of the blue... everybody is mad about Peru! In 2010 Antik Batik started the trend by making this beautiful little handbag (and by capturing their Autumn-Winter 2010/2011 collection in Peru); this year italian brand JFK designed a "Peruvian" inspired pair of a sandals.

And last but not least... Peruvian fashion photographer Mario Testino designed an exclusive capsule collection for MATE, his non-profit arts foundation. Twenty percent of the profits will be donated to Mate. All the items are to-die-for (and available through net-a-porter.com), so get your hands on them while you can!

Antik Batik Spring-Summer 2013

The new spring-summer collection by Antik Batik shows once again the signature style of designer Gabriella Cortese: bohemien, globetrotting, ethnic, luxurious, refined and very personal.

Cortese always has an eye for detail: just look at the embroideries, the tie-dye technique, the use of exquisite materials...These dresses are perfect for a sultry summer evening.

I know... summer is still very far away, at least in the Northern Hemisphere. But no need to worry: you can already show off those wonderfull bags and bracelets!

Antik Batik Fall/Winter 12-13 collection

The latest Antik Batik collection is chiquer than ever before! Less hippie, more ladies-who-lunch, but still très bohemièn. Antik Batik shows many sequins, fringes, luxurious fabrics and a lot of black and gold this season, all in line with the ongoing Twenties theme.

The Antik Batik Fall/Winter 12-13 collection is not in stores yet, but when these to-die-for pieces will arrive... I will make a run for them!!! Even if it were only to buy the accessories, that will take me from summer into fall. (Although it will be hard to resist the gorgeous winter coats and the sequined holiday dresses... despite the fact that by then it will still be summer!)

Antik Batik, Spring-Summer 2012

Oh Antik Batik... how much do I love this brand & their new Spring-Summer 2012 collection! It's a trip around the world. Or as the French say "le tour du monde en une collection". France, Indonesia, India, Kuweit... it's all there.

I Looove... Antik Batik

Antik Batik is one of my all-time favourite fashion brands! If you put on a dress by Antik Batik, you just know you're gonna feel good and... you won't (easily) find anyone in the same outfit!

Antik Batik was founded in 1992 by italian born designer Gabriella Cortese and is still going strong. Her headquarters are in Paris, but many of the garments are hand made in India. She travels around the world for inspiration and to look for new techniques: in Bali she discovered 'batik' and in India embroidery and 'bandhani' (an artisanal dyeing process).

Cortese: “I want to create the fashion of a voyager who plunges into the past and rediscovers treasures in an old trunk, pieces that evoke childhood memories and the parties of the Roaring Twenties.”
Owning several Antik Batik pieces... I can say it always feels like a party whenever I wear them!

Must Have photography book.... "Antik Batik Peru"

Founder and designer of Antik Batik, Gabriella Cortese and photoghrapher Thierry Le Gouès traveled to Peru, to capture the Autumn-Winter 2010/2011 collection.

They chose a beautiful, but also very contrasting scenery: the mountains of Cuzco and the rivers of Lake Titicaca.
Rich and elaborated clothes.... in a poor, rural setting.

This resulted not only in stunning fashion photography, but also in an emotional coverage of the living conditions of the Peruvian people.

Profits from the sale of the book and prints from the exhibition (which took place during French fashion week, 28/09 to 07/10) will go to the inhabitants of villages damaged by the floods of January 2010. The association who is going to manage those profits is Plan International.
