Dutch Design Week '11

The 10th edition of the Dutch Design Week was a big succes! The whole city of Eindhoven was yet again invaded by design and designers.
Many, if not all, disciplines of design where there to be seen and admired. Industrial design, product design, graphic design, textile and fashion... too much to mention. And... too much to visit in one day or even in a week!
During the Dutch Design Week there are exhibitions, product launches, lectures, workshops, but also many parties.

Unfortunately I did not have the time to visit all the different venues, or to buy everything I liked....

Sketch Department store, The Hague

Paris has Colette, Milan has 10 Corso Como, New York has Henri Bendel... and The Hague has Sketch! A brand new department store with everything you ever wanted (or didn't know you did, but now do).

Sketch is situated in an old arthouse cinema, a beautiful building in Art Nouveau style (that in the 19th century used to be the carriage house of the nearby Hotel Des Indes). 

The first thing you see when you enter the store, are the lovely flowers, which are, like everything else, for sale. Then there is art, paintings, home accessories, but also perfumes by CB I Hate Perfume, jewelry by Arielle de Pinto, special art magazines and...
organic delicacies, such as Fever Tree lemonade & Olive oil by Villa Manodori. 

On the first floor you'll find shoes by United Nude, clothing by Acne, Best Behavior, Black, Francisco van Benthum, Hope, Mardi Jeudi, MIH jeans, Stella Nova, Yarn Yunit, etc. etc.
This fall Viktor & Rolf men's line will be added to that!

And last but not least Sketch sells fabrics, pillows, carpets... so you can decorate your home, just like you 'decorate' yourself.
In one word: amazing!

Salone del Mobile 2011... the highlights

Here are some highlights of the Salone del Mobile 2011. I absolutely loved the transparent furniture at the Kartell stand, as well as the big mask chairs (called Nemo) by Fabio Novembre for Driade!!! I think no one could resist sitting in them.

Missoni Home at the Salone del Mobile

The Missoni Home collection at the Salone del Mobile 2011 in Milan was truly beautiful.... Ahhh.... I wanted to have it all!! Besides the famous Missoni zig zag pattern, there were colourful flower patterns, stripes, checks and on and on....

I can hardly find the words to describe how gorgeous it all was! And I was not the only one.... all the visitors of the Salone kept taking photos at the Missoni stand (and refused to leave).

Can you blame them?
