Gran Teatro de la Habana, Cuba

The Gran Teatro in Havana is an impressive building, right in the centre of the city, next to the Capitolio and Parque Central. It's also conveniently close to Hotel Iberostar Parque Central, Hotel Saratoga and Hotel Telegrafo. The building was constructed between 1908 and 1915, in neo-baroque style. It was renovated in 2004 and most definitely worth paying a visit!

El Gran Teatro de la Habana is home to the Ballet Nacional de Cuba (Cuban National Ballet Company), one of the most famous ballet companies in the world. While I was there, I was lucky enough to see them performing the "Swan Lake"! Breathtaking really...

By the way, if this is what Cuban costume designers can do... I can't wait for them to open up shop and start their own fashion labels! But then again... Narciso Rodriguez and Isabel Toledo are from Cuban descent... so that shouldn't come as a surprise!

Ask the concierge (Relaciones Públicas) in your hotel for the current programme & how to book tickets. In case you speak Spanish, you can just go the ticket office yourself. Two more things: make sure you dress up, everybody does! And bring a hand-held fan, since there is no air conditioning.
