Capriz Feinkäserei... Cheese Lovers Heaven!

Are you going skiing or snowboarding in Gitschberg-Jochtal and like to try a different type of après-ski? Then you must pay cheese factory Capriz (slash museum slash shop slash winebar slash bistro) a visit! I was there last summer and expected an old-fashioned Tyrolean style cheese factory. I couldn’t have been more wrong! This state of the art building has nothing old-fashioned about it.

The cheese museum shows you step by step how cheese is made and it’s an interactive type of thing; you can touch, feel and smell the cheeses! The museum was invented by Heiner Oberrauch and designed by architects Stefan Gamper & Walter Pichler. It turned out to be an incredibly modern and fun museum! A nice excursion for both adults and kids.

Afterwards you can either have a glass of wine and small bites in the winebar, or enjoy an exuberant lunch in the minimalist style bistro, choosing from bruschetta, salads, pasta, risotto, fresh fish and more. The dishes are accompanied by local wines, which accentuate the flavours of the cheeses perfectly.

The cherry on the cake is of course the massive store… selling all kinds of local delicatessen. Besides their homemade cheeses, Capriz offers great wines such as Lagrein, the typical Tyrolean  "schüttelbrot" (spiced rye flatbread), marmelades, fruit juices, Tiroler "speck" (smoked bacon), fresh knödel (dumplings)... and just about any local food! I can't think of a better souvenir to take back home from your ski holiday.
