Leiden, a beautiful town in The Netherlands, known for hosting the first university in the country (1575) is definitely worth paying a visit! Close to Amsterdam and The Hague, it's also located perfectly.
Today I went to see the National Geographic exhibition at the Volkenkunde Museum, including Steve McCurry's Afghan girl.
After that, I paid Museum De Lakenhal a visit.
A gorgeous building by the way!
At De Lakenhal I was blown away by Erwin Olaf's "Leidens Ontzet"... This famous Dutch photographer was invited by the museum and Leiden university to depict the Relief of Leiden (1574), in the style of classical history paintings. Amazing! Go and check it out if you can.
Besides the many museums, Leiden counts numerous canals, bridges, cute side alleys, beautiful historical buildings and a "Hortus Botanicus".
