Here in The Netherlands there is a big Asian population; in Amsterdam, Rotterdam and The Hague there are so-called Chinatowns. In The Hague the Chinese New Year will be celebrated with a festival on February 1st (including fireworks and the traditional Lion and Dragon dance). For more information please visit:

I love setting the table for special occasions, whether it is for Easter or Christmas, Valentine's Day or a birthday party. For Chinese New Year I go all out. It's the perfect occasion to choose colors and flowers that I would usually not use. (Oh and it's a great excuse to order a cake at the Chinese bakery!)
For the perfect Chinese New Year table setting the color red should be used! Red symbolizes good luck, happiness, as well as fertility and vitality. Gold is another popular color. If you don't have red tableware, you can simply add red touches, by using red flowers, candles, menu cards or napkins. I also like to add animal figurines that stand for that particular lunar zodiac sign, such as a tiger or rabbit.
