It's still two months until Christmas, but this year everybody seems to be longing for the Holiday Season earlier than ever. The corona virus is probably the main reason behind it. People spend a lot more time at home and want to make it as comfortable and cosy as possible. Money that was usually spent on vacations, is now being used to decorate the house.
However, in The Netherlands there is an unwritten rule: you don't put up the Christmas tree until December 6h, the day after Saint Nicholas. (When Saint Nicholas leaves, Santa arrives.) But even here many stores have already decorated Christmas trees and are selling Christmas decorations.
I have to admit, I love it, because I am longing for that Holiday feeling as well. Especially since all the bars and restaurants are closed and the weather is wet and windy. Christmas is something to look forward to.
The main "trend" in Christmas Decor is and will always be a Traditional Christmas. Think green, red and white, combined with gold or silver, images of Santa Claus, mistletoe, etc.
Another trend, that is similar to Traditional Christmas decor, is Christmas Nutcrackers. This year they are literally everywhere! Originally they come from Germany, where the nutcrackers are symbols of good luck and protectors of a home & who will scare away evil spirits. Over the years they have become symbols of Christmas.
Another trend that has been around for some years is Into The Woods. An abundance of natural colors, combined with forest animals, such as deer, owls and squirrells.
Relatively new in Christmas Decorations is the Out of Africa trend: animal print Christmas baubles, "the big 5" game animals such as elephants and lions, combined with gold and all shades of brown. It's a very luxurious yet modern type of home decor. Personally I love traditional decorations, but all these animal prints do make my heart beat faster.
