A couple of weeks ago I was in London and made reservations at Nobu Berkeley ST, because I had heard so much about it and really wanted to check it out myself. I was not disappointed...! After a warm welcome by the hostesses at the door, I was brought to the bar downstairs to wait for my table. By the way, the huge dining room is on the first floor.
The bar is super cool and... super dark! Great if you're on a (first) date or if you're a little shy. For people watching pick the tables on the opposite side of the bar. To start the evening, you can choose from a very large selection of cocktails, various wines by the glass, champagnes, sake (even unfiltered sake), Fiji water, virgin cocktails and more.
Nobu's wine list offers many exclusive wines: Sancerre, Chablis, Amarone, Gavi di Gavi, Chateau D'Yquem, Dom Perignon, Krug, Louis Roederer, Ruinart and on and on! But don't worry, you don't have to take the £500 bottle. While I was there I choose a glass of Riesling to go with my starters and a Chianti by Castello Banfi with the main course. Delicious but not overly expensive.
The presentation of the dishes is truly impressive. And the service is impeccable! Guests are escorted to their tables with all the waiters calling out "irashaimase", welcome in Japanese. A little intimidating maybe if you don't know what they're saying, but actually very kind. Napkins are re-folded everytime someone leaves the table (after finishing dinner and before your digestive or during sigarette breaks).
Well and then let's talk about the food... amaaazing! So good...
My neighbours Emma and Brad had the black cod in banana leaves and she told me it was "the best fish I ever had in my life".
I took a tomato ceviche instead, which was really simple but equally stunning, then the best sushi I ever had... and as a main course I opted for the sauteed vegetables with rice. Too much, but oh so good. Too bad though I couldn't squeeze in one of the desserts, because they all looked very tempting. A good reason to come back!
Next time you're in London and you want something special for lunch or dinner, go to Nobu Berkeley Street. You won't regret it! (Just bring a big fat wallet.)
