Vogue Fashion Festival 2017 Amsterdam

After London and Paris, it was finally Amsterdam's turn to host the Vogue Fashion festival. Ever since I read about the first Vogue festival in London in 2012, I've been dying to go! This weekend I attended the first Dutch edition, held at the luxurious Amstel Hotel.

As brand manager Hante Anema explained, when Vogue organizes an event, any event, it's meant to be larger than life. And in fact it was! The team of Vogue Netherlands came up with an amazing programme, with inspirational debates, interviews, workshops, lectures and styling advice.

The line-up included fashion designers Viktor Horsting & Rolf Snoeren, (Viktor&Rolf), Claes Iversen, Jan Taminiau, Dean & Dan Caten (Dsquared2), stylists Monica Rose, Meredith Koop (Michelle Obama's stylist), models Rose Bertram and Marjan Jonkman, journalist Milou van Rossum, influencers Negin Mirsalehi, Anna Nooshin and Linda Tol and many more.

The festival kicked off with a warm welcome by Editor in Chief Vogue Netherlands Karin Swerink, followed by "Fiona in bed with Viktor & Rolf'" (and Rolf's dog Zwaentje). Fashion Features Director Vogue Netherlands and renowned fashion journalist Fiona Hering did a really good job at making them feel comfortable. With her sense of humor and laidback personality she was able to get them in a rare, talkative mood. Another fun interview was the one she did with Dean and Dan Caten.

However, to me the highlight of the festival was meeting the Vogue directors, editors, stylists, brand & event managers! Learning more about their diverse backgrounds, passions, drive, do's & don'ts was very enlightening. During a speeddate session they gave us all the inside information about working at Vogue.

Last but not least, I got a complete makeover... hair, makeup, nails, the works! My hair was done by Ruben for Rob Peetoom, makeup by MAC Cosmetics, nails by Essie. I really liked the result. (Hence the various pictures.) Good job Vogue Nederland; I am already looking forward to next year!

Flashback to... Vogue Fashion's Night Out Amsterdam

What better to do on a rainy day than dreaming of tropical holiday destinations, sweet cocktails and sexy bikinis? My thought exactly! Vogue Fashion’s Night Out was celebrated already a while ago, but I didn’t want to keep these lovely pictures from you.

I think Vogue Fashion’s Night Out is always so inspiring! Fashion stores show their new collections, DJs are playing everywhere, beautiful people are literally dancing on the street, champagne is flowing, canapes are served and people really make an effort to look their best!

This year unfortunately I had very little time, since I had to wake up at 4 a.m. to catch a flight to Italy… that didn’t stop me from going of course! The most important stop of the night was Kabana Resort Wear, an amazing new store located in the Conservatorium Hotel.

I felt like I walked right into the tropics…there were fresh coconut cocktails, beautiful models wearing the latest swimwear, there was a DJ and then there were all those lovely new clothes and accessories.

Want to know more about Kabana Resort Wear? Please read my previous review here: http://tarasdolcevita.blogspot.nl/2015/06/kabana-resort-wear.html

Other highlights of VFNO 2015 were the Tunes Bar and Skins Cosmetics, both at the Conservatorium Hotel, Zara Home, American Vintage and the P.C. Hooftstraat. Too bad VFNO is held only once a year!

Ps. The stunning flower arrangements were made by LM Flower Fashion.

The best dressed guests at the Met Gala

I always love it when guests respect the dresscode of a party. Not that I don’t admire those who break the rules sometimes, but honouring the sartorial preferences of your host(ess) is something that has become a rarity these days.

This year’s dresscode for the most important fashion event of the year, the MetGala, was “Chinese white tie” in line with the exhibition’s theme “China: Through the Looking Glass”.

“White tie” is of course the most formal (western) dresscode you can get, consisting of white tie and tailcoat for men and a formal gown for women. A request to wear white tie tends to make people nervous… I guess the same thing can be said about any event hosted by Anna Wintour!

Many of the guests got ready in hotels close to the Metropolitan Museum, posting instagram updates of hair, makeup, getting-ready-drinks, pyjama parties, departure and arrival. To me that was the best part of the Met Gala… the anticipation!

Here you’ll see some of the best dressed guests, or at least my favourites. Emma Roberts and Anne Hathaway in Ralph Lauren, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley in Versace, Alexa Chung in Erdem and Zendaya in Fausto Puglisi took my breath away! That said, there were also several celebrities who had their dresses blown away… or at least that’s what it looked like…

In fact Beyoncé, Jennifer Lopez and Kim Kardashion all looked practically naked, but I think the only one who really pulled it off was Beyoncé, wearing Givenchy Haute Couture by Riccardo Tisci. Another very big entrance was made by Rihanna, in a yellow couture cape made by Chinese designer Guo Pei.

All photos were previously published on instagram. The name of the photographer (or person who posted it) is listed behind the name of the guests / portraitees.
