Feliz Dia de los Muertos

This year instead of going to the local Mexican restaurant, we celebrated Dia de los Muertos at home, combined with Halloween. Without the traditional Mexican music, pan de muertos and the waiters with their faces painted, it was not the same. But the margaritas and tacos tasted just as good!

I didn't grow up with neither Halloween nor Dia de los Muertos, so in the beginning it felt strange to celebrate the dead and eat candy in the form of skulls and skeletons, but over the years I learned to appreciate and even love it.

At the end of the day, both Halloween and Dia de los Muertos, go back to an ancient, Celtic celebration, Samhain or (how it was later called) All Hallows Eve. Already thousands of years ago, people celebrated their dead. But most of all, I think it's a celebration of life. Honor the people who passed away and their lives. And celebrate, have fun, party... Carpe Diem!

6 year Anniversary!

Todays is the 6th anniversary of my blog! I can hardly believe it.... six years already! Celebrations were in order of course... but instead of cake and champagne, this year I got treated to dinner at one of my favourite restaurants... Kua Mexican Kitchen. Margaritas and enchilladas, what more can a girl wish for?

Cheers and a big thank you to you, my readers, who have followed and supported me these past few years! For daily inspiration you can also follow me on instagram, facebook or twitter (@tarasdolcevita).

I wore a skirt made by my Mexican friend Graciela, the owner of Pitti Vintage. Perfect for the occasion, right? Unfortunately her shop in Florence is closed, but she still sells online. For more information about Pitti Vintage, please continue here:

KUA Mexican Kitchen, The Hague, The Netherlands

Mexican food has been undervalued for a long time if you ask me. Maybe some Mexican restaurants are to blame for their own sloppy image. Not KUA Mexican Kitchen though! This relatively new hotspot in The Hague is the cream of the crop. Pure, authentic, delicious food, nice interior decoration, good service and a great atmosphere is what sets them apart from other (Mexican) eateries.

The extensive menu offers something for everyone, fish or meat lovers and vegetarians alike. I love their simple green salad, but the tacos, chicken in homemade "mole" sauce and the black Angus steak, "Corte de Arrachera Monterrey", are also very good!

Chef and owner Daniel Muñoz Sheridan is a very good host! Always smiling, always making time for his customers. There's actually only one downside to KUA Mexican Kitchen.... and that is that it's so popular, you have to book (way) in advance.
