Café El Lucero, Havana, Cuba

A relatively new bar in Havana Vieja is Café El Lucero. Painted in one of my favourite colours... turquoise... it really stands out when you walk or drive by! Café El Lucero is one of the architectural gems that was completely restored by tourist company Habaguanex in collaboration with "La Oficina del Historiador de la Ciudad" (the City Historian's Office of Havana, the organisation which is responsible for the restoration of the historical city centre).

When I was there, they had just (re)opened their doors, so the upstairs dining room was not completely finished, nor was it possibile to have dinner. I did have some really nice espressos, mojitos, white wine & wonderful Cuban sandwiches, which tasted so good... I will definitely come back for more! The staff was extremely friendly and professional; that probably comes as no surprise to those who know the manager, who used to be the Food & Beverage director at five star hotel Saratoga.

Café El Lucero is a great place to sit back, relax and enjoy watching the daily life in Havana. Many classic cars drive by... as well as the hop-on hop-off tourist bus. So "hop off" if you're in the neighbourhood. From Hotel Sevilla, the Museo de Bellas Artes and the Museo de la Revolucion it's only a five minute walk. I can highly recommend it!
